"We won't be cleaning the streets we won't be cutting the grass, we won't be putting street lights on at all, your libraries will go, your pot holes won't get filled up"

The stark warning was given by Lord Porter, Conservative Chairman of the Local Government Association in a recent interview as reported by the Independent newspaper (see here).

Transparency Fund 2017/18 is now live!

NALC has advised that this year's Transparency Fund is now open and have released the relevant form for use when submitting an application to the Fund (see below). Please refer to the guidance notes when completing your application. Completed forms should be returned to the LRALC office in the first instance.

New guide to elector's rights to challenge parish council accounts at audit time

As a local resident people have legal rights to inspect, ask questions about and challenge items in your council's accounts.

The National Audit Office has recently published this new guide on these rights, which are enshrined in law.

Top tip – Election of Chairman and Annual Parish Council Meetings

By the end of this month every Parish Council should have held their Annual Parish Council Meeting, and the Chairman of the Parish Council should have called the Annual Parish Meeting (which must be held by 1st June each year).
