DCLG is the Government Ministerial Department that is responsible for parish and town councils, which sits within their wider remit to "create great places to live and work, and to give more power to local people to shape what happens in their area".
The Chief Officer of LRALC meets with civil servants from DCLG a few times each year and these are invariably amongst the most useful meetings attended due to the ability to be briefed on priorities, etc., and also to lobby and influence on issues affecting the sector. LRALC wants to ensure that all member councils have the same opportunity to meet with DCLG, to be briefed and to make representations, but also to highlight the great work that is happening within Leicestershire and Rutland.
The briefing will highlight the priorities for the Government/DCLG for both the short and long term, addressing specific issues around "capping", Council Tax Support (CTS) grant, and many other areas of considerable concern to ALL local councils regardless of size. Other consultations and discussions at Government level will also be discussed, such as the issue of local councils receiving a slice of the Business Rates levied in their area.
We strongly recommend that member councils (both Cllrs and Clerks can attend) book on this free event as it is unlikely to be repeated in the short term at least.
