Effective Local Council Minutes

Course Tutor: Frances Webster, Training & Advice Manager, LRALC

This session lasts a maximum of three hours dependent upon number of delegates, and delegate interaction. This interactive and informal session is designed to;

- Outline the duties of a minute taker, suggest good practice and discuss how fostering good relationships, and encouraging an understanding by members of their and officers' roles, will support the effective publishing of minutes

- Provide answers to any current questions that the new or inexperienced officer may have on minute taking in the local council context

- Give the opportunity to look at examples of decisions made, and allow the delegate to practice framing an effective minute, with group feedback during the session

- Through the above, engender confidence and competence in the individual attending

The primary target audience are new/inexperienced clerks, deputies and committee clerks having been in post less than a year; the session is also suitable for more experienced officers as a refresher.
