Harborough District Council Parish Liaison Meeting Postponed - June 27th June
Due to low numbers, which we suspect is down to timing (holidays, the county council annual parish conference, and other demands around this time are likely to have made it difficult for parishes to send representatives), the parish liaison meeting scheduled for Thursday June 27th has been postponed.
Further information to follow.

Our colleagues over the border in Northants have published an excellent publicly available briefing for our sector on the pre-election rules that all councils must follow.
This is essential reading for even the smallest parishes.

Lessons to learn? Are you REALLY in control of your council's finances (Brierley Town Council Public Interest Report)?
The below article was previously published by us in 2015. We are reposting it below as we are increasingly identifying inadequate management of risk by some of the councils who use our Internal Audit Service. The LGA also issued specific general election guidance today, here.

Update on Parish Council Being Charged for Code of Conduct Investigation Costs
Further to our article dated 12th May. we can now provide an update on the recharging of a Code of Conduct investigation to a parish council in Staffordshire.
As we suspected at the time, it appears that there is no legal basis for such a recharge from a principal authority.
NALC have liaised with the chair of the Staffordshire association, and the county association are liaising with the member council... Read More »

Parish Councils and Technology

An example of this is VOIP telephone systems which, for those councils who already had such a system, made life under the COVID lockdowns much easier than at those councils where someone had to physically go to the parish office once a week to pick up answer machine... A Shocking Development in Parish Council Code of Conduct Investigations
In what we believe is a first for England, a parish council is being charged what appears to be the full cost of an investigation into Code of Conduct complaints against one of its councillors.
Newcastle Borough Council (NBC) has issued the parish council with a bill for £23,865, including around £4,000 VAT, covering the cost of the standards investigation following the complaints. These... Read More »
